Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to create a final set.

He defended 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
