Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
